| Electrical, Instrumentation, Control & Automation (EICA) Design EngineerVeoliaBirmingham, United Kingdom Job ID: 12440DescriptionResponsible for all EICA aspects on a water treatment project. Typically this includes low voltage switchgear & motor control centres, electrical installation, control systems, operator interfaces and process instrumentation. Projects are typically, but not exclusively, in the UK, and may be either in the UK municipal water industry or the industrial sector. Duties will include
- Develop and implement the project EICA design: produce single line
diagrams, motor schedules, instrument schedules, and specifications for electrical equipment, installation and software;
- Technical aspects for procurement of MCC, cabling, systems
integration, process instrumentation, other electrical equipment and various process plant and packages;
- Conduct detailed technical bid evaluations of quotations prior to placement of sub-contracts and purchase orders;
- Understand and develop the requirements of the process design
following consultation internally and externally in order to produce a detailed software user requirements specification;
- Carry out and record design risk assessments and participate in design reviews and Hazops;
- Ensure information is available to sub-contractors in order for their design to be completed in a timely and accurate manner;
- Expedite the required supplier technical documentation, through technical support as appropriate;
- Review sub-contractor drawings and specifications against client
& VWS specifications. Detailed checking of documents: schematics, cable schedules, functional design specifications, mimics etc;
- Provide EICA input into design activities by other disciplines;
- Regularly monitor the financial performance of all EICA aspects of projects;
- Assist in the preparation of project financial forecasts;
- Report internally on EICA aspects against budget and programme;
- Attend technical meetings with clients, principal contractors, JV partners and subcontractors;
- Provide specialist project EICA design and advise and co-ordinate
activities, particularly the interface between specialist sub-contractors & suppliers;
- Conduct FATs for switchboard, MCC, systems integration and packaged plant;
- Conduct inspections & tests for electrical equipment and miscellaneous plant;
- Responsible for EICA design aspects of installation & commissioning;
- Monitor the supervision and quality control of all EICA installation work on the project;
- Deal with site technical queries. Visit site as necessary for
meetings with clients, meetings with site team and for occasional installation supervision and commissioning;
- Provide assistance to tendering department in EICA aspects of
tenders, including preparation of specification, schedules & drawings for enquiries and for assessment of returned quotations;
- Practice effective communications at all times with other members of
the EICA function, with project members from all other internal functions, with industry contacts, such as clients and partners;
- Develop and maintain individual commercial awareness;
- Ensure that all activities are carried out in a safe manner, in line with the health and safety requirements;
- Ensure that all activities are carried out in line with QA procedures;
- Comply with the requirements of CDM and the VWS UK Health & Safety policy.
QualificationsEssential
- BSc or BEng in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
Desirable
- Further relevant general engineering qualifications;
- Membership of relevant chartered organisation.
Skills & ExperienceEssential
- Proven competence in similar roles in the process or water and waste industries;
- Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills with good attention to detail;
- Effective time management skills with the ability to manage projects effectively;
- Application of BS7671 17th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations;
- Computer literacy (with good Microsoft Word and, Microsoft Excel competence);
- Flexible working approach to deal with potential problems;
- Organisational skills for prioritising tasks in appropriate manner;
- Health & safety awareness.
Desirable
- Knowledge of cable sizing software;
- Knowledge of PLC programming software;
- Experience of bus communications eg Profibus, Ethernet TCP/IP;
- Experience of high voltage distribution may be useful on certain projects.
