German government condemned, any statements that could undermine the aim of achieving peace in the Middle East, ahead of a visit by Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi, who raised his statements against Jews and Zionists in 2010 when he was a leading Muslim Brotherhood sensation.
Said Martin Schaefer, spokesman for the "State Department" German "will not comment on the statements attributed to Mr. Morsi., But with respect to the German government, it is clear that the reduction of tension and work to reach a long-term solution at the top priorities in the Middle East."

De Hoop Scheffer said "We are optimistic that Egypt continues to play a constructive role in the peace process in the Middle East. Talks between Chancellor and Foreign Minister and other officials with Mr. Morsi next week is a good opportunity to discuss these issues on a small scale."
